Sixteen years ago, way before AI and long before I ever photographed weddings or ran a full-time business, I started creating something that would become the heart of my work: A Scottish Fairytale Series. What began as a spontaneous, slightly wild idea one snowy winter has now grown into a magical adventure that people travel halfway across the world to be part of.

FROSTED HIGHLANDS
Frosted Highlands
It all began in January 2011.
Snow was falling thick across the Highlands, and instead of staying cosy at home like any sensible person, I decided to brave the elements and drive up to Glencoe armed with an old camera, a model, a handful of dresses, an assistant (who was also my incredibly patient friend!), and a big imagination.
We didn’t really know what we were doing, only that we wanted to create something beautiful, something cinematic, something that felt like a fairytale rooted in Scotland’s dramatic, romantic landscapes.
And that day turned into the beginning of a series I’ve now been shooting for sixteen years.

Every year since, I’ve put together photoshoots based loosely on classic fairytales, Scottish folklore, and whimsical stories dreamed up during long drives or windy hilltops. It’s always been something I’ve done purely for the love of it , the very reason I picked up a camera in the first place. I wanted to create fantasy worlds, to bring imagination to life, and to show Scotland in the way I’ve always seen it: enchanting, moody, powerful, and full of magic.

Because I’m so passionate about these shoots, once an idea sparks in my head… absolutely nothing stops it happening.
Over the years, we’ve been battered by sideways rain, blasted by howling winds, and trudged through knee-deep snow, dragging camera kit across the mountains on a sledge. But every single fairytale shoot has been an unforgettable adventure, captured in some of the most breathtaking scenery Scotland has to offer.

And somehow, this little passion project turned into something much bigger than I ever imagined.
What started as a fun idea with friends in Glencoe has grown into a full fairytale experience so much so that people now fly over from the United States to book their own fantasy photoshoots with me. They come for kilts and forests, dramatic castles, swords, moody lochs, and the chance to step into their own piece of Scottish mythology.

To think that something I began simply for fun , with frozen fingers, thrifted costumes and a car laden with chocolate to keep us going, would one day attract travellers from across the world still feels surreal, and incredibly special.
